Newport 6 Knaphill 0

The Port put in a fine performance today to power past their Combined Counties League opponents Knaphill.

The early minutes of the first half suggested this was going to be a very close encounter as Knaphill enjoyed plenty of possession but their chances on goal were limited to a few long range efforts. It was not until approaching the half hour mark that the Port were to register their first goal and in was central defender Scott Sampson with a powerful header following good work on the left hand side by Freddie Knowles.

Boosted by the goal the yellows were to go on and score two more by half time to seal the win. Iain Seabrook was the scorer of both goals, the first a delightful chip over the keeper that would have graced any stadium in the country.

Half Time: Newport 3 Knaphill 0

Unlike the previous friendlies so far, Newport started the second half without any changes, although seven substitutes were named . They were soon to push further ahead when a great move through the middle saw Ashley Wright chip the keeper only for the ball to hit the bar. It did fall nicely however for
Tom McInnes who evaded a couple of last ditch challenges to put the Port further ahead.

It was then that Derek started to make some changes with Paul O' Connor,
Simon Williams, Mark Augustus, Wayne Newnham, Sam Hart, James Butt all getting a run out.

It was to be a substitute who rounded off the scoring with two well taken goals. Running at the defence Sam Hart was to cause Knaphill some serious problems and when he got the ball on to his left foot he was able to pick his spot and place the ball in the corner of the net.

With 15 minutes to go Derek brought off Gary Streeter and brought on our new reserve keeper for a run out.

A beautiful piece of skill delivered the sixth and final goal. Chasing the ball into the corner Sam Hart forced the goalkeeper to come out and give away a corner. Reacting quickly he placed the ball on the corner spot and before the keeper could get back between the sticks curled the ball directly into the net.
