Newport 1 Chichester City 2
Port conceded a late goal to go down to a good Chichester City side. To be fair a draw would have been about right but two defensive errors cost the Port the bragging rights in the first friendly of the season. With St George's Park looking top class on a beautiful sunny day there was plenty of good football on display. Both sides had chances to score in the first half, for the Port , Ashley Wright looked very sharp on his return narrowly missing with a glancing header and again being denied by a last minute tackle. Steve Leigh playing in midfield for Chichester starting most of their moves out of defence.

A half time switch around produced almost two different sides and it was Chichester who came out the stronger. It wasn't long before a defensive error allowed a Chichester striker the chance to run on to a through ball and shoot past Jamie Bray. The Port were almost level straight away as Ashley Wright had two efforts blocked on the line. The Port managed to battle back and with 15 minutes to go a poor clearance by the replacement Chichester goalie allowed Tom Mcinnes to chip the ball back into an empty net and equalise.
With only five minutes to play and the match seemingly heading for a draw, a second defensive slip by the Port allowed an unmarked man at the far post the chance to lay the ball back in to the six yard box for an easy tap in by the centre forward.
